Checking bioclimatic variables that combine temperature and precipitation data before their use in species distribution models

چکیده

The 19 BIOCLIM variables available from the WorldClim databases have become most widely used set of climatic for creating species distribution models (SDMs) and ecological niche (ENMs). Nevertheless, in recent years, there has been an increasing trend to exclude four these SDM/ENM analyses. values concerned are interactive as they combine both temperature precipitation assessments. Their exclusion was justified initially due discontinuities their interpolated surfaces observed a study using data version 1 WorldClim. were thought be artefacts measures used, such sudden changes unlikely biologically meaningful. A freely biodiversity database open access geographic information system here check versions 2 Over world, found change smoothly. Major minor discontinuities, however, noted all specific parts some six continents (excluding Antarctica) covered by databases. Discontinuities related quarterly periods calculate variables. These often equatorial regions where only small across year. Bimodal distributions may also cause problems. It is recommended that quick simple method described should facilitate visual inspection numerical checking possible before If variable area, it not used. Ways which could recalculated when new created suggested reduce discontinuity

Climatic change can impose physiological constraints on species and can therefore affect species distribution. Bioclimatic predictors, including annual trends, regimes, thresholds and bio-limiting factors are the most important independent variables in species distribution models. Water and temperature are the most limiting factors in arid ecosystem in central Iran. Therefore, mapping of climat...

Modeling Species Distribution Using Niche-Based Proxies Derived from Composite Bioclimatic Variables and MODIS NDVI

Vegetation mapping based on niche theory has proven useful in understanding the rules governing species assembly at various spatial scales. Remote-sensing derived distribution maps depicting occurrences of target species are frequently based on biophysical and biochemical properties of species. However, environmental conditions, such as climatic variables, also affect spectral signals simultane...

Predicting Spatial Distribution of Key Honeybee Pests in Kenya Using Remotely Sensed and Bioclimatic Variables: Key Honeybee Pests Distribution Models

Bee keeping is indispensable to global food production. It is an alternate income source, especially in rural underdeveloped African settlements, and an important forest conservation incentive. However, dwindling honeybee colonies around the world are attributed to pests and diseases whose spatial distribution and influences are not well established. In this study, we used remotely sensed data ...

Predicting the geographical distribution of Alopecurus textilis Boiss rangeland species on basis Consensus approach of climate change in Mazandaran province

The climate changes have an important role in distribution of plant species. Statistical species distribution models (SDMs) are widely used to predict the changes in species distribution under climate change scenarios. In the peresent study, the distribution of Alopecurus textilis in the current and future climate condition (2050) under the influence of climate change and two scenarios of RCP 4...
